I’m hiring at the moment.
One CV landed with something I didn’t expect: Gemini had left its own notes in the document. The original prompt. The “considerations.” Sitting in the CV itself.
It didn’t put me off because someone used AI. I use AI every day. If the core qualifications and competencies are genuine, fair enough.
What raised the eyebrow was simpler. They hadn’t read their own CV before they sent it.
What IOSH Jobs is saying
On 16 July 2026, IOSH Jobs published “Can AI help you land your next health and safety job?”
The useful bits, stripped of the brochure language:
- AI can help tailor a CV to a role and tighten writing
- It should reorganise real experience, not invent it
- Generic AI cover-letter openers are easy to spot
- Interview prep is a good use case; memorising AI answers is not
- Always verify technical and legal points against proper sources
- Employers recruit people, not prompts
That last line is the one that matches what landed in my inbox.
Why it matters in health and safety
This profession runs on trust and competence. People expect you to notice the awkward detail: the wrong date on a permit, the missing control on a risk assessment, the sentence that does not match what actually happens on site.
Sending a CV with the AI scaffolding still visible is the same family of mistake. Not evil. Not automatically dishonest. Just a loud signal that the final check did not happen.
A simple rule of thumb
- AI to sharpen and structure: fine
- AI to invent or pad experience: no
- Hit send without reading every line: that is the red flag
Assuming the quals are real, I am still interested in the person. I am less interested in the person who never opened the file one last time.
